Cracked, broken or uneven concrete around a Bettendorf home rarely gets better on its own. Water gets into the cracks, freezes, and opens them a little wider every winter. Edges that stick up become trip hazards on the front walk. And a damaged driveway is one of the first things buyers notice. At Tomlinson Cannon, we repair driveways, sidewalks, patios, steps and garage floors, and we'll be straight with you about whether a slab can be saved or needs to come out.

Repair, lift or replace?

The right fix depends on what's actually wrong with the concrete.

If a slab is still in one piece but has dropped or tilted, it usually doesn't need replacing at all. It needs lifting. That's a separate service, covered on our concrete lifting and leveling in Bettendorf page.

If the concrete is cracked through, broken into pieces, crumbling at the surface or pushed up by tree roots, it's a repair or replacement job. Sometimes that means replacing one or two damaged sections instead of the whole driveway, which keeps the cost down and the yard intact.

What wears concrete out in Bettendorf

Winters here are hard on concrete. Freeze-thaw cycles work water into every crack, and road salt tracked in on tires and spread on walks eats at the surface until it flakes and pits. Driveways on Bettendorf's sloped lots also take runoff from the street and the roof, which washes out the base along the edges. Add the weight of cars parked in the same spot for years and older driveways start breaking down at the corners and joints first.

Why it pays to fix it early

A small crack is a cheap problem. Left alone, it lets water under the slab, the base erodes, and that one crack becomes a broken section that has to be cut out and poured again. Uneven edges are also a real safety issue on walks and steps, especially for kids and older family members.
