Basement Wall Straightening

When it comes to bowing or buckling walls, homeowners are surprised to learn that you don’t have to rebuild the entire wall. We use the Grip-Tite® basement wall anchoring system which was developed by engineers and is approved by building officials of the International Code Council. Why? Because it offers one of the strongest and most secure methods of repairing and securing basement walls. The Grip-Tite® Wall Anchor System restores the structural integrity of walls without having to rebuild them. More information is available on the Grip-Tite webpage.

Broken basement walls are usually caused by water that has not been properly channeled away from the foundation. This is often due to leaky gutters or poor landscaping. Over time, water saturates the soil adjacent to the foundation walls exerting hydrostatic pressure which then cracks and pushes the wall inward. This system uses anchoring plates and steel rods to stabilize the wall and counteract pressure being exerted against the wall.

The Installation Process (which can usually be completed in 1 day):
A hole is drilled in the basement wall and a ¾” steel anchor rod is inserted through the wall into the outside ground. A steel anchor is then attached to the rod through a vertical hole in the ground (the sod is removed and saved where the “fence post” type holes are drilled in the soil). A steel wall plate secures the rod to the inside basement wall. The hole(s) are then refilled and the sod is replaced.

The anchors prevent any further movement of the wall. In most cases, over time, the Grip-Tite® anchor takes advantage of the natural expansion and shrinkage of the soil and, by keeping the bearing plate tight (we supply a professional grade torque wrench), a leaning wall can be returned to a straight position.

Anchors can be placed in different locations along the wall and rod extenders can be used to avoid decks, flowerbeds, etc.

Note: Damaged foundations and basement walls are often caused by roof water not properly routed away from your house. Are your gutters old, leaky or dumping water next to your foundation? Call us for a free analysis and estimate.
